Stem Cell Research - David Goldhamer - December 5, 2006

Background: Connecticut's Stem Cell Advisory Committee recently awarded 21 grants for stem cell research, with a little more than $12 million of the state's $19.8 million total for this year going to researchers at the University of Connecticut. One of the UConn researchers is Dr. David Goldhamer, an associate professor of molecular and cell biology, who is part of the UConn Center for Regenerative Biology. The CRB is headed by Dr. David Rowe, professor of genetics and developmental biology at the UConn Health Center.

Audio: David Goldhamer, associate professor of molecular and cell biology, talks about his research of muscle development in mice, with emphasis on control of the pathway of development and muscle regeneration. He also talks about how modern research is incremental and the work of many over time moves us toward the goal of finding a scientific breakthrough or curing a disease.
